Budget-Cost Manager

The Budget-Cost Manager is a full-time, hybrid role with three days per week spent in the client’s downtown Chicago office. Candidates must have expertise in PMIS cost implementation and configuration. Familiarity with Oracle ERP and Trimble (e-Builder) is preferred. The right candidate will be self-driven and highly professional to ensure work is completed with excellence while maintaining a flexible schedule.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage the Cost Engineering team, ensuring workload balance and timely submittal of deliverables
  • Oversee adherence to budget and cost policies, providing feedback to ensure quality project controls meetings
  • Coordinate with other functional teams to ensure seamless integration and communication across the program
  • Streamline reporting efforts and recommend improvements to optimize budget/cost management systems
  • Act as the primary liaison between the client and cost team, ensuring proper funding management and understanding of program requirements
  • Develop training materials, mentor staff, and ensure continuous improvement and compliance with budget/cost analysis
 

The Ideal Candidate will Bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in budget/cost controls for large construction programs, preferably with infrastructure or transportation that is federally/state-funded
  • Collaborates well within teams, understands team roles, and promotes effective problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • Stays engaged in professional growth through resources like publications, associations, and conferences
  • Actively listens to others, values different opinions, and applies lessons learned to improve future outcomes

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Cost Engineering, Finance, Accounting or other related field
  • Expertise with PMIS cost implementation and configuration. Preferred expertise with Microsoft Access, Oracle ERP, Trimble (e-Builder) and Excel, including query building and coding
  • Adapts to change, learns new skills, and successfully manages multiple tasks and priorities
  • Communicates effectively, adjusting language and tone to the audience, and handles difficult conversations with ease
 
The hourly rate for this position is $60 – $85, based on experience and qualifications.

Construction Field Engineer

The Construction Field Engineer will serve as a key member of the firm’s growing construction services discipline by working on construction management & inspection projects throughout Chicago area. The successful candidate will perform inspection services on road, bridge, and transit projects for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois Tollway, Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), and other clients.

This is a full-time role that requires work in various field offices and field locations across northern Illinois. Candidates must be self-driven, flexible, and understand the nature of working in various weather conditions and across various shifts.

What You’ll Do:

  • Inspect and document construction activities to ensure compliance with the contract plans and specifications.
  • Work closely with project engineer or supervisor to prepare reports detailing project costs, progress, risks and opportunities for review by senior management.
  • Work with supervisor to address public and contractor questions.
  • Make measurements and observations of work being performed to ensure accurate quantities are tracked for completed work and payment.
  • Electronically document pay quantities, material requirements, and contractor staff in a daily work report.
  • Trouble-shoot engineering-related issues in a field setting.
 

The Ideal Candidate will Bring:

  • IDOT, Illinois Tollway, Chicago Department of Transportation, and/or CTA project experience.
  • Experience with MicroStation and/or Trimble Unity Construct (e-Builder) system.
  • Intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to assist in developing strategic approaches and concepts.
 

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1-5 years of related experience for large construction programs, preferably in construction inspection and documentation.
  • Willingness to commute to construction projects in varying locations, work in all weather conditions, and work in various shifts.
  • Ability to prioritize project assignments to meet competing deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate well within teams, and promote effective problem-solving.
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective decision-making.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Possess strong math skills.
 

The hourly rate for this position is $22 – $55, based on experience and qualifications.

Resident Engineer

The Resident Engineer (RE) will serve as a key member of the firm’s growing construction services discipline by working on construction management & inspection projects throughout the Chicago area. The successful candidate will perform inspection services on road, bridge, and transit projects for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois Tollway, Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), and other clients, with a focus on structural applications.

This is a full-time role that requires work in various field offices and field locations across northern Illinois. Candidates must be self-driven, flexible, and understand the nature of working in various weather conditions and across various shifts.

What You’ll Do:

  • Ensure that the appropriate plans, specifications, and regulations are met & complied with.
  • Work closely, coordinate, and collaborate with the clients, designers, contractors, and various other stakeholders.
  • Generate and maintain a variety of contractual documents, such as, daily reports, weekly reports, quantity tracking, construction material, weekly reports, contractor pay estimates.
  • Perform constructability reviews, trouble-shoot field issues, and work proactively to mitigate project risks.
  • Provide direction and guidance to more junior inspectors and staff.
  • Monitor field activities and contractor’s progress & work, while directing field staff to oversee this work.
  • Manage, coordinate, and respond to a variety of submittals, contractor’s request for information, and design issues raised by the construction management team.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the contractor with the intent to complete the project with the highest quality and on-time.
  • Work towards contact closeout throughout the lifespan of a project to ensure the quickest completion of a project. 
 

The Ideal Candidate will Bring:

  • IDOT, Illinois Tollway, Chicago Department of Transportation, Cook County, and/or CTA project experience
  • Experience with Trimble Unity Construct (e-Builder) and/or MicroStation
  • Professional Engineering license and/or structural inspection certifications
  • Intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to assist in developing strategic approaches and concepts
 

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • 10 years of experience in engineering and/or construction management, ideally including structural inspection.
  • Possess the ability to read and enforce working drawings and related specifications.
  • Ability to give practical advice on construction matters.
  • Willingness to commute to construction projects in varying locations, work in all weather conditions, and work in various shifts
  • Ability to prioritize project assignments to meet competing deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate well within teams, and promote effective problem-solving
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective decision-making
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Strong math skills
 

The hourly rate for this position is $55 – $70 ($114,400 – $145,600 annually), based on experience and qualifications.
