Parking Access and Revenue Control Technology at O’Hare International Airport

Massachusetts-based Scheidt & Bachmann was chosen by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s administration to begin installing new Parking Access and Revenue Control Technology (PARCT) at O’Hare International Airport. PMCS will be working as a subconsultant on this $14-million upgrade. The current 17-year-old system will receive upgrades that allow motorists to reserve a parking spot as well as pre-pay, on their home computers. Or, even better, on their smartphones.

The contract will also include other improvements, such as “pay-on-foot”, easing the exit lines at peak travel times with attendants. New ticket machines will be installed in the parking garage. Installation of a ‘mobile license-plate recognition system’ software system will capture the license plate images of all entries and exits. The database will track frequent motorists, help motorists find their vehicle and enable the attendants to calculate the parking fee without a penalty.

Within the scope of the 12 to 18 month project, PMCS’s team will provide cost and schedule management, field inspection services, tracking of field costs and other field documentation.

This is just a fraction of the $800 million plan to double the capacity of O’Hare’s people mover system as well extending it to a rental car campus.
